What We Did on Our Holiday

Doug and Abi McLeod are a married couple whose relationship has reached a breaking point, but before they can act on it they must travel with their three young children to the Scottish Highlands for a family gathering. The occasion is the birthday of Doug's father Gordie, and the couple intend to present themselves to their relatives as a happy, united family. Their plan is threatened by the children, who prove unable to keep the secret and who also have their own eccentric preoccupations.

Directed by Guy Jenkin and Andy Hamilton, who also wrote the screenplay, the film was released in 2014 and runs for 95 minutes. It was Jenkin's second feature as director, arriving eleven years after his first. Rosamund Pike and David Tennant play Abi and Doug, with Billy Connolly as Gordie and Ben Miller and Amelia Bullmore among the relatives. Emilia Jones plays the eldest child, Lottie. The credited cast numbers 23.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.9 from around 26,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from a much smaller number of votes. A film critics' rating of 6.2 from 60 reviews places critical opinion slightly below the audience scores. The film earned about 11 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for a British comedy produced by Lionsgate and BBC Film.
