Little Caesar

Little Caesar follows Caesar Enrico Bandello, known as Rico, a small-time criminal who moves to Chicago with his friend Joe Massara. The two join Sam Vettori's gang, but Joe dreams of a career as a dancer and drifts away from the underworld after meeting Olga. Rico stays, rises through the organization, and eventually takes over from Sam, reaching the top of the city's rackets. His suspicion that Joe will betray him grows as his position becomes more exposed.

The film was directed by Mervyn LeRoy, the second of the fourteen features he directed in chronological order, following Oh Kay! and preceding Broadminded. Edward G. Robinson plays Rico, with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as Joe, Glenda Farrell as Olga, William Collier Jr., Sidney Blackmer and Ralph Ince among a credited cast of thirty-two. Francis Edward Faragoh and Robert N. Lee wrote the screenplay, and Darryl F. Zanuck and Hal B. Wallis produced for Warner Bros. Pictures and First National Pictures. It runs seventy-eight minutes.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 7.2 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from roughly 310 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 from twenty-six reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores on both platforms.
