Short description

Seeking a divorce from her absentee husband, Mimi Glossop travels to an English seaside resort. There she falls in love with dancer Guy Holden, whom she later mistakes for the corespondent her lawyer hired.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Producer Pandro S. Berman insured Fred Astaire's (1899-1987) legs for over $300,000 and insisted that he find a dance partner as soon as possible. Astaire was initially reluctant to partner with anyone, as he had recently split from his former partner—his sister Adele (1896-1981).
  • The dance to the composition "The Continental" lasts 17 and a half minutes. It remained the longest musical number for another 17 years until the release of Vincent Minnelli's (1903-1986) "An American in Paris" (1951), in which Gene Kelly (1912-1996) dances for 18 and a half minutes at the end of the film. Additionally, it is the longest dance in the entire cinematic career of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (1911-1995).
