Marc Beaulieu, a tax official, misses the last train back to Paris and is stranded overnight in a provincial French town. He meets Sylvie, and the two spend the night walking the streets and talking about everything except themselves, forming an easy and unusual bond. Before Marc boards the first train the next morning, they agree to meet again in Paris a few days later. Sylvie keeps the appointment, but Marc does not make it. When he later meets a woman named Sophie, he falls for her without any idea that she is Sylvie's sister. The discovery of that family tie leaves him caught between the two women.
Benoît Jacquot directed and co-wrote the film with Julien Boivent. It is a French, Belgian and German production, and it came out in 2014, following Farewell, My Queen and Venice 70: Future Reloaded and preceding Diary of a Chambermaid in Jacquot's filmography. Benoît Poelvoorde plays Marc, with Charlotte Gainsbourg as Sylvie and Chiara Mastroianni as Sophie. Catherine Deneuve, André Marcon and Patrick Mille appear in supporting roles.
Its ratings divide along familiar lines: on IMDb the score is 5.5/10 from 130 votes, while a critics' rating of 6.8/10 rests on 40 reviews, so reviewers responded to the film more warmly than the general audience did. It runs 100 minutes.
