The House by the Cemetery

The House by the Cemetery is a 1981 Italian horror and mystery film directed by Lucio Fulci, who wrote the screenplay with Dardano Sacchetti and Giorgio Mariuzzo. It was produced by Fabrizio De Angelis for Fulvia Film and runs 87 minutes.

The story follows Dr. Norman Boyle, a researcher who moves from New York to a house near Boston with his wife Lucy and young son Bob. He has taken over the work of a colleague, Dr. Peterson, who died after killing his mistress and himself while looking into the previous owner of the property, a Dr. Freudstein. The family settles into the house, which has a poor reputation locally, and soon Bob is troubled by visions of a girl who warns him of danger inside it. Strange noises come from the basement, and Lucy makes a disturbing discovery there.

Catriona MacColl plays Lucy, Paolo Malco appears as Norman, and Giovanni Frezza plays Bob. Ania Pieroni is the babysitter Ann, Silvia Collatina is Mae Freudstein, and Dagmar Lassander is the estate agent Laura Gittleson. The film was made between The Beyond and The New York Ripper, the fourteenth of nineteen features Fulci directed in chronological order. It earned about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 11 reviews, while on TMDB audience voters give it 6.3 out of 10 from 453 votes, a friendlier response than the critical one.
