Tenebre
Short description
Tenebre follows Peter Neal, an American author of violent mystery novels who travels to Rome to promote his latest book. Soon after his arrival, a series of murders begins in the city, and the killings appear to mirror scenes from the novel he has just published. Pages from the book are left at the crime scenes, and Neal receives threatening messages quoting his own writing. What starts as a publicity trip turns into a police inquiry in which the visiting writer becomes both a suspect and a target, and he begins looking into the deaths himself, alongside his assistant Anne and his agent Bullmer, while Detective Germani watches closely.
Dario Argento directed and wrote the film, with Claudio Argento producing. It was Argento's seventh feature as director, arriving between Inferno in 1980 and Phenomena in 1985. Anthony Franciosa plays Neal, with John Saxon, Daria Nicolodi, Giuliano Gemma, Christian Borromeo and Mirella D'Angelo among the cast of 24 credited performers and a crew of 50.
Released in Italy in October 1982 and running 101 minutes, the film sits within the horror, mystery and thriller genres. It holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from 719 votes, and a critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 27 reviews, placing the two measures close together.

- During the filming of the movie, Argento used electric lighting with a flicker rate of forty cycles per second.
