Jane, an American backpacker, is recruited into an underground martial arts tournament in Hong Kong known as the Kumite after her street-fighting skills catch the attention of a local master. Trained for months, she enters a field of the world's most dangerous female fighters, among them Ling, the student of her trainer's rival. The two women are drawn together as darker forces close in, taking the story from Hong Kong's underworld to the wealth of Macao. Directed by Chris Nahon, Lady Bloodfight was released in 2016 and runs 102 minutes.
It is an action, drama and thriller co-production between Hong Kong and the United States, made by Voltage Pictures and B&E Productions with a budget of 10 million dollars. The screenplay is by Bey Logan and Judd Bloch, and Logan produced alongside Nicolas Chartier and Zev Foreman. Amy Johnston plays Jane, with Muriel Hofmann as Shu, Kathy Wu as Wai, Jenny Wu as Ling, Jet Tranter as Cassidy and Mayling Ng as Svietta, among 33 credited cast members.
The film arrived in the later part of Nahon's directing career, after Kiss of the Dragon, Empire of the Wolves and Blood: The Last Vampire. Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.6 out of 10 from around 3,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 out of 10 from 187 votes.
