You're Not You is a drama about Kate, a successful classical pianist who is diagnosed with ALS, a progressive and incurable illness that gradually takes away her independence. Unwilling to accept the loss of control over her life, she chooses an unlikely caregiver: Bec, a scattered young woman with no clear direction, who takes the job despite having little idea of what it involves. The two women could hardly be more different, but their arrangement grows into a close friendship that changes both of them. Kate's husband Evan, who struggles to cope with his wife's condition, appears among those closest to her.
George C. Wolfe directed the film, the second of the five features listed in his filmography, following Nights in Rodanthe and preceding The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Rustin. Jordan Roberts and Shana Feste wrote the screenplay, and Hilary Swank produced alongside Denise Di Novi and Molly Smith. Swank plays Kate, with Emmy Rossum as Bec, Josh Duhamel as Evan, and Stephanie Beatriz, Julian McMahon and Ali Larter in supporting roles, part of a credited cast of 31. Released in October 2014, the film runs 104 minutes.
Reception split along lines typical of such dramas. On IMDb it holds 7.3/10 from around 28,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.4/10 from 858 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.7/10 from 21 reviews, suggesting audiences responded more warmly than reviewers did.
