Warsaw 44

Warsaw 44 is a Polish war drama set in the summer of 1944, as the German occupation of the city nears its fifth year and the Soviet army advances from the east. Young residents of the capital, including Stefan, Alicja and Kama, join the Polish Home Army and take part in the Warsaw Uprising, convinced the fight will be brief. Instead, the city becomes a battlefield contested street by street, and the friends face the cost of the struggle. Stefan is drawn into the resistance despite his responsibilities at home, while his bond with Alicja develops amid the violence around them.

Jan Komasa directed and wrote the film, his second feature after Suicide Room (2011) and the one preceding Corpus Christi (2019), The Hater (2020), Anniversary (2025) and Good Boy (2026). Michał Kwieciński produced it for Akson Studio with TVP, MIK and the National Centre for Culture. Józef Pawłowski plays Stefan, with Zofia Wichłacz as Alicja, known as Biedronka, Anna Próchniak as Kama, Antoni Królikowski as Beksa, Maurycy Popiel as Góral and Filip Gurłacz as Rogal, among 86 credited cast members. The 127-minute production had a budget of about 6 million USD. On TMDB it holds a 6.7 rating from 293 votes.
