Survival of the Dead

Survival of the Dead takes place on a small island off the North American coast, where two feuding families, the O'Flynns and the Muldoons, disagree sharply over how to deal with the dead rising from their graves. One side wants the undead destroyed without exception; the other holds out hope that a cure might restore zombified relatives and neighbours to normal, keeping them locked up in the meantime. A band of soldiers arrives on the island, drawn by its reputation as a safe haven, and becomes caught up in the conflict between the clans.

George A. Romero directed and wrote the film, his fourteenth feature and the last in the chronological list of his directorial work, following Diary of the Dead in 2007. The cast includes Alan van Sprang as Sarge Nicotine Crockett, Kenneth Welsh as Patrick O'Flynn, Kathleen Munroe as Janet and Jane O'Flynn, Devon Bostick, Athena Karkanis and Stefano DiMatteo. It was produced by Paula Devonshire on a budget of four million dollars, and runs ninety minutes.

Audience response has been mixed across platforms: on IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from around 23,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 4.8 out of 10, from roughly 527 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10, drawn from 91 reviews, places professional assessment close to the audience scores.
