The Other Side of The SEX

The Other Side of The SEX is a Japanese documentary about the men who work in front of the camera in adult video. It looks at the male performers who sustain an industry that grew, over three decades, into a business worth tens of billions of yen a year. Through interviews and footage from behind the scenes, around twenty performers discuss their lives, their views on women, their thinking about sex and their commitment to the job. The film moves between seasoned figures and newcomers, setting individual outlooks against the demands of the profession.

Yujiro Enoki and Hidekazu Takahara directed, and Enoki also wrote the screenplay; both came to the project as veterans of the adult video business. Tomokazu Koseki produced for Maxam. The credited cast of twenty includes Tatsuro Hibino, Kenji Hayami, Yuto Kuroda, Taka Katou, Ryuji Yamamoto and Tony Ooki, all appearing as themselves. The documentary runs 86 minutes and was released in Japan in February 2013. It stands as the first of the two films Enoki has directed, ahead of Anticipation in 2019.
