Leatherface
Short description
Leatherface is a crime horror thriller set in Texas. A teenager who will become the killer known as Leatherface escapes from a psychiatric hospital together with three other violent inmates. The group kidnaps a young nurse named Lizzy and takes her on a journey across the state. A disturbed Texas Ranger named Hal Hartman pursues them, driven by a personal desire for revenge. One of the fugitives moves towards a series of tragic and horrific events that shape him into a monster.
The film is a prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, focused on the youth of its central character. It was directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, who had previously made Inside in 2007 and Livid in 2011; they went on to make The Deep House, Kandisha and The Soul Eater. Seth M. Sherwood wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Stephen Dorff, Vanessa Grasse, Sam Strike, Lili Taylor, James Bloor and Jessica Madsen.
Leatherface was released in 2017 and runs 88 minutes. It performed modestly at the box office, taking about 1 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5 out of 10 from around 31,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 1,464 votes. A film critics' rating of 3.9 out of 10 from 44 reviews places it below both audience scores.
