Ron Hall is a successful international art dealer whose marriage to his wife Deborah has grown strained after many years together. When Deborah begins having recurring dreams about a man she does not recognize, she eventually meets him while volunteering at a soup kitchen: Denver, a homeless man shaped by a life of poverty and hardship. Ron, hoping to repair his relationship with Deborah, forms an unlikely bond with Denver, and a friendship develops that crosses the social and cultural distance between the two men and draws in the whole Hall family.
The drama was directed by Michael Carney, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ron Hall and Alexander Foard. It stars Greg Kinnear as Ron Hall, Renée Zellweger as Deborah Hall and Djimon Hounsou as Denver, with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt and Peyton Wich among the credited cast. It was produced by Cale Boyter, Mary Parent and Darren Moorman, and runs 119 minutes.
Released in October 2017, the film is an adaptation of the memoir by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. It earned about 6 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for a wide-release drama. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 rating from roughly 9,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.8 from about 280 votes, indicating a small but generally favorable audience response.
