Voice from the Stone is a drama with mystery, romance and thriller elements set in 1950s Tuscany. Verena, a nurse, takes a position at an old manor house in the Italian countryside to care for Jakob, a boy who has stopped speaking since his mother died. The child's father, Klaus, a widower, believes his son hears a voice that may belong to the dead woman. As Verena settles into the household and grows closer to father and son, she comes to suspect that a presence within the walls is real and hostile, and that it is turning its attention toward her.
Eric D. Howell directed the film, his first feature, from a screenplay by Andrew Shaw. Emilia Clarke plays Verena, with Marton Csokas as Klaus, Caterina Murino as Malvina, Remo Girone as Alessio, Lisa Gastoni as Lilia and Edward Dring as Jakob. It was produced by Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini-Durante.
The film was released in 2017 and runs 91 minutes. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 26 reviews, while on TMDB its audience rating stands at 5.6 out of 10 from 504 votes, so the two measures sit at a similar level. Howell returned to directing with Murder at the Lighthouse in 2025.
