Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction

In the underground Diamond Domain, a realm populated by Carbink, the Mythical Pokémon Diancie rules over a land kept alive by the Heart Diamond. When that diamond begins to fail, Diancie must create a replacement, but lacks the strength to do so. Setting out to seek aid from the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas, Diancie crosses paths with a band of thieves intent on exploiting its diamond-creating ability. The thieves' actions rouse the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal from its cocoon, leaving Ash, Pikachu and their companions to help Diancie come into its own power and protect the domain.

Kunihiko Yuyama directed this 2014 entry, the twenty-third of the twenty-eight films he directed in chronological order, following Pokémon: Mewtwo - Prologue to Awakening and preceding Pokémon: Pikachu, What's This Key?. Hideki Sonoda wrote the screenplay. Rica Matsumoto voices Ash and Ikue Otani voices Pikachu, with Mayuki Makiguchi, Yuki Kaji, Mariya Ise and Megumi Satou among the 23 credited cast members; 89 crew members are credited. It runs 76 minutes and was produced in Japan by The Pokémon Company, East Japan Marketing & Communications, TV Tokyo and OLM.

On a budget of 25 million USD, the film took 29 million USD worldwide. Audience scores diverge: it holds 5.5/10 on IMDb from around 2,100 votes and 6.7/10 on TMDB from roughly 207 votes, a gap consistent with a small, dedicated viewing pool on the latter.
