Jesse Stone: Night Passage is a crime drama that serves as a prequel to the earlier Jesse Stone film Stone Cold. After losing his job with the Los Angeles police, Jesse Stone is recruited as police chief of Paradise, a small fishing town on Massachusetts' North Shore. The town council that hires him seems to expect little from a man with his troubled background, but Stone soon finds himself looking into the violent death of the chief who preceded him, a case that touches a domestic disturbance and leads toward money laundering involving some of the community's wealthiest residents.
Robert Harmon directed the film, which sits between Stone Cold and Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise in a run of Jesse Stone television movies he made from 2005 onward. Tom Selleck plays Stone, with Saul Rubinek, Viola Davis, Kohl Sudduth, Stephen Baldwin and Polly Shannon among the supporting cast.
Released in 2006, the film runs 89 minutes and was produced for television by Sony Pictures Television Studios with Brandman Productions and TWS Productions II. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from around 7,000 votes, and on TMDB it scores 6.9 from a much smaller pool of 137 votes, indicating a generally favorable response from viewers with wider agreement among the larger IMDb sample.
