Short description
Mike and Dave Stangle are brothers who enjoy partying and have a habit of disrupting family gatherings. When their sister Jeanie gets engaged and plans to marry in Hawaii, their father Burt makes their attendance conditional on bringing respectable dates. The brothers advertise online and end up with Alice and Tatiana, two women who seem suitable companions for the trip. Once everyone reaches the island, the pair prove even harder to manage than Mike and Dave themselves, and the wedding celebrations take an unpredictable turn.
Jake Szymanski directed the film, his third feature after Presidential Reunion and 7 Days in Hell, working from a screenplay by Brendan O'Brien and Andrew J. Cohen. Zac Efron and Adam Devine play Dave and Mike, with Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza as Alice and Tatiana; Sam Richardson and Stephen Root appear among a credited cast of 52. The production, mounted by Chernin Entertainment with 20th Century Fox and TSG Entertainment, cost about 33 million dollars and returned roughly 77 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6 out of 10 from around 100,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6 out of 10, from 2,666 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 170 reviews places it below those audience scores. Szymanski went on to direct Tour de Pharmacy, The Package and Bad Day.
