Death Ship

Death Ship is a 1980 horror adventure set in the Caribbean, where a cruise liner collides with a strange vessel that emerges from the fog. A small group of survivors manages to climb aboard the other ship, which appears deserted. No crew answers them, yet its machinery keeps running on its own, and the passengers gradually come to understand that they have boarded an abandoned German wartime vessel with a malevolent will of its own. The film stars George Kennedy as Captain Ashland, Richard Crenna and Sally Ann Howes as Trevor and Margaret Marshall, Nick Mancuso as Nick, Kate Reid as Sylvia and Victoria Burgoyne as Lori.

Alvin Rakoff directed the film from a screenplay by John Robins, with Derek Gibson and Harold Greenberg producing. It was Rakoff's second feature as director, following Crossplot in 1969, and was made as a co-production between the United Kingdom and Canada through Astral Bellevue Pathé, Astral Films, Lamitas and Bloodstar Productions. It runs 91 minutes.

The film was released in March 1980. Its reputation sits in modest territory: on IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from around 6,400 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.1 from some 167 votes. Both figures point to a cult curiosity rather than a widely admired title, with the limited audience response suggesting the film found a small following.
