Eddie the Eagle

Eddie the Eagle tells the story of Michael "Eddie" Edwards, a British ski jumper whose childhood dream was to compete at the Olympic Games. He fails to make his mark in any other sport, and when he turns to ski jumping, he finds a discipline Britain has long neglected. With the help of Bronson Peary, a former American ski jumper, Eddie trains for the qualifying events and earns a place at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where he becomes a crowd favourite despite finishing near the back of the field.

The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher, his third feature after Wild Bill and Sunshine on Leith, and it came before Rocketman and Ghosted. Taron Egerton plays Eddie, with Hugh Jackman as Peary, Christopher Walken as Warren Sharp, and Ania Sowinski, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen and Iris Berben in supporting roles. Simon Kelton and Sean Macaulay wrote the screenplay.

Produced across Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, the film had a budget of about 23 million dollars and took roughly 46 million dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb and 7.2 out of 10 on TMDB, while the film critics' rating stands at 6.7 out of 10, so viewers have been somewhat warmer towards it than reviewers.
