In 1995, somewhere in the Balkans, a group of aid workers sets out to solve what looks like a simple problem in territory that the war has largely passed by. A body has been thrown into a well, and the water that local people depend on is at risk of being contaminated. Removing it should not be difficult, but the team soon finds that almost everyone and everything stands in the way: villagers, withdrawing soldiers, UN forces, a herd of cows and an endless supply of bureaucracy.
The group is led by Mambrú, a veteran coordinator pulled between his job and the girlfriend waiting for him at home. His colleagues include Sophie, an idealistic newcomer, Damir, who translates for the team, the uninhibited Katya, and B, a long-serving volunteer with no patience for rules.
Fernando León de Aranoa directed and wrote the film, which follows his 2005 feature Princesses among the four titles he has directed in chronological order, and he also produced it with Jaume Roures. Benicio del Toro, Tim Robbins, Olga Kurylenko, Mélanie Thierry, Feđa Štukan and Eldar Rešidović lead a credited cast of 27. Released in August 2015, the Spanish production took about 2 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 6.7 rating on TMDB from 696 votes, and critics' reviews give it the same 6.7 average.
