Rambling Rose
Short description
In 1930s Georgia, a teenage boy named Buddy Hillyer looks back on the summer his family took in a young woman named Rose. Hired as a housemaid to keep her from slipping into prostitution, Rose settles into the Hillyer household, where her looks and uninhibited manner draw the attention of every man around her, including Buddy's father and Buddy himself. Her presence unsettles the household and stirs feelings the boy is unprepared for, while Rose's own impulses keep landing her in trouble.
Martha Coolidge directed the film, which sits between Real Genius and Angie in a career that had begun with Not a Pretty Picture and Valley Girl. Calder Willingham wrote the screenplay, and Renny Harlin produced. Laura Dern plays Rose, with Robert Duvall and Diane Ladd as Mr. and Mrs. Hillyer, Lukas Haas as the young Buddy, John Heard as Buddy as an adult, and Kevin Conway as Dr. Martinson. The film runs 112 minutes.
