John Wick is forced out of retirement by a former associate looking to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to aid him, Wick travels to Rome and does battle against some of the world’s most dangerous killers.
What's left behind the scenes
- This is the first time since the release of "The Matrix Revolutions" (2003) that Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves have appeared together on screen.
- The story of John Wick was conceived as a trilogy. This is the second part of the trilogy.
- Principal photography of the film began on October 26, 2015, in New York. Filming also took place in Rome (Italy) and Montreal (Canada).
- Keanu Reeves received firearms training according to IPSC and IDPA rules under the guidance of renowned instructor Taran Butler, who has prepared many world-class athletes, law enforcement officers, and actors. The weapons that Reeves' character acquires from Sommelier (two pistols, a carbine, and a shotgun) also underwent extensive tuning at Taran Tactical Innovations, owned by T. Butler.
- This is the fourth joint project of Peter Stormare and Keanu Reeves after "Constantine" (2005), "Henry's Crime" (2011), and the series "Swedish Dicks" (2016).
- In preparation for the role, Keanu Reeves received training in shooting with two pistols and in hand-to-hand combat from former special forces soldiers. A video of the actor at a shooting range was posted online, showing Reeves constantly moving from side to side, firing live ammunition at targets with different types of weapons.
- Keanu Reeves and Common previously starred together in the action film "Street Kings" (2008).
- Filming of the movie took place from October 26, 2015, to February 12, 2016, in New York, Rome, and Montreal.
- The film's director, Chad Stahelski, worked as a stunt double/stuntman on the set of the "Matrix" trilogy.
