Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson has spent his life being moved from one school to another, never quite fitting in and never knowing why. On a museum field trip, an ordinary teacher turns into something monstrous and demands that he hand over Zeus's lightning bolt, a theft he knows nothing about. Percy escapes to a camp for demigods, where he learns that he is the son of Poseidon and that the gods are ready to go to war over the missing bolt. Accused of the theft, he sets out across the country with a satyr named Grover and a daughter of Athena named Annabeth to find the real thief and return what was taken before the conflict becomes open war.

The film is an adaptation of Rick Riordan's novel, directed by Chris Columbus, the thirteenth of the seventeen features he has made in chronological order, arriving between I Love You, Beth Cooper and Pixels. Craig Titley wrote the screenplay, and Karen Rosenfelt, Columbus and Mark Radcliffe produced. Logan Lerman plays Percy, with Brandon T. Jackson as Grover, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, Jake Abel as Luke Castellan, Pierce Brosnan as Mr. Brunner and Sean Bean as Zeus.

Made for about 95 million dollars, it took roughly 226 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.9 out of 10 from about 215,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2 out of 10 from nearly 8,000 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.3 out of 10 from 150 reviews, a little below what audiences gave it.
