Short description
Pirates of Silicon Valley follows the parallel paths of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as they build Apple and Microsoft from small operations into two of the largest technology companies in the world. The story covers their college years, the founding of their businesses, and the rivalry that develops between them as the personal computer becomes a mass-market product, with Steve Wozniak and Paul Allen also figuring in the rise of the two firms.
The film is a 1999 television movie directed by Martyn Burke, who also wrote the screenplay, based on the book Fire in the Valley. It was produced by Leanne Moore for Turner Network Television, Haft Entertainment and St. Nick Productions, and runs 97 minutes. Noah Wyle plays Steve Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall plays Bill Gates, with Joey Slotnick as Steve Wozniak and Wayne Pére among the 24 credited cast members. It was Burke's first directed feature, followed by Avenging Angelo in 2002.
On IMDb the film holds a 7/10 rating from 621 votes, while its critics' rating stands at 7.2/10 from nine reviews, placing the two measures close together.

- Part of the film's plot was used in the animated series “The Simpsons” (1989). (“Homer’s Enemy”, episode 11 of season 23).
- At the end of the film, when Steve Jobs learns about the release of Microsoft Windows and begins an argument with Bill Gates, a computer appears in the frame running one of the early versions of Windows, but it is not Windows 1, as it did not support overlapping windows. The computer in the film has a calculator window over a file manager window.
