Vivah centres on Poonam, a young woman raised in traditional fashion by her uncle and aunt in Madhupur after the death of her parents. Her uncle arranges her marriage to Prem, the son of a wealthy Delhi family, and the two meet only briefly before their engagement. Over the months that follow, they get to know each other, and what began as an arranged match grows into genuine affection. Their plans are thrown into uncertainty, however, when an accident shortly before the wedding leaves Poonam facing the possibility of lasting scars, putting their commitment to the test.
The film was directed and written by Sooraj Barjatya, appearing between Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1999 and Yeh Prem Mol Liya in 2026. Shahid Kapoor plays Prem Bajpayee and Amrita Rao plays Poonam Mishra, with Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas, Alok Nath and Manoj Joshi in supporting roles. It was produced by Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Rajkumar Barjatya and Ajit Kumar Barjatya under the Rajshri Productions banner, and runs 175 minutes.
Released in November 2006, Vivah is an Indian drama and romance. It took about 4 million dollars worldwide at the box office. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from roughly a hundred votes, indicating a modest but generally positive response from viewers.
