Lowriders

Lowriders is set in East Los Angeles, where teenager Danny Alvarez divides his time between his father Miguel's garage and the walls he covers with spray paint. Miguel is consumed by lowrider car culture and expects his son to follow him into it, but Danny's interest lies in art. His older brother Francisco, known as Ghost, returns home from prison and starts building his own car club, setting up a rivalry with their father that plays out at an annual lowrider competition. Danny is pulled between the two men while also being drawn into a different creative circle by Lorelai, a scene photographer who notices his work.

The film is a crime drama directed by Ricardo de Montreuil, arriving between his earlier My Brother's Wife and the later Mistura, from a screenplay by Joshua Beirne-Golden, Justin Tipping and Cheo Hodari Coker. Gabriel Chavarria plays Danny, with Demián Bichir as Miguel, Theo Rossi as Ghost, Tony Revolori as Chuy, Melissa Benoist as Lorelai and Yvette Monreal as Claudia. Jason Blum and Brian Grazer produced, and the credited cast and crew number 25 and 56 respectively.

Released in April 2017, the film took about 6 million dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB, while critics give it 5.9 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes, a narrower gap than is typical for a genre release of this scale.
