Land of Mine

Land of Mine is a Danish-German drama set in the weeks after Germany's surrender in May 1945. Thousands of German prisoners are put to work clearing the millions of mines the occupying army buried along the Danish coast. A group of very young German soldiers, barely more than boys and only recently conscripted, is handed to Sergeant Carl Rasmussen, who is ordered to use them to make a stretch of the west coast safe. Untrained and unequipped, they must locate and defuse the devices by hand in the sand, while their sergeant's attitude toward them gradually shifts.

Martin Zandvliet wrote and directed the film, his first feature before The Outsider and The Marco Effect. Roland Møller plays Rasmussen, with Louis Hofmann, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Joel Basman, Laura Bro and Oskar Bökelmann among the cast.

Produced by Malte Grunert and Mikael Chr. Rieks for Amusement Park Films, Nordisk Film Denmark, ZDF and K5 International, the film had a budget of about five million dollars. On IMDb it holds 7.8 from roughly 49,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.8 from about 1,500, while critics gave it 7.5 from 105 reviews, so audiences and critics are closely aligned.
