For the Love of Spock

For the Love of Spock is a documentary about the character Spock from Star Trek and about Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portrayed him for close to five decades. Written and directed by Leonard's son, Adam Nimoy, it began as a project to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the original Star Trek series, and after Leonard Nimoy died in 2015 it also became a personal account of what it was like to grow up as the child of a television icon. The film looks at how Spock was created, how the role developed over the years and what the character came to mean to audiences around the world, while Adam Nimoy reflects on his relationship with his father.

The documentary combines archival material with interviews with friends, family members and colleagues. Among those appearing as themselves are William Shatner, George Takei, J.J. Abrams, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine and Adam Nimoy, with 45 people credited in the cast.

Released in September 2016, the film runs 105 minutes and was produced by 455 Films. It holds a rating of 7.6 out of 10 on IMDb from 4,812 votes and 7.4 out of 10 on TMDB from 196 votes, while critics gave it 7.3 out of 10 from 31 reviews, indicating broadly positive reception from both audiences and reviewers on similar levels.
