All the Bright Places

Violet Markey and Theodore Finch are two teenagers carrying wounds from their pasts. When Finch notices Violet struggling after her sister's death, he draws her out of her grief, and the two form a close bond as they travel together through Indiana. Their relationship deepens into love, but Finch's own unpredictable moods and despair place a strain on them both, and Violet finds herself trying to help him even as she leans on him for her own recovery. The film is based on the young adult novel by Jennifer Niven, who co-wrote the screenplay with Liz Hannah.

Brett Haley directed the film, which followed Hearts Beat Loud in his filmography and was released in 2020. Elle Fanning, who plays Violet, also served as a producer, and Justice Smith plays Finch. The supporting cast includes Alexandra Shipp, Kelli O'Hara, Lamar Johnson and Virginia Gardner, with twenty credited cast members in all.

Reception was moderate but warmer among general viewers than among the wider pool of voters: on IMDb the film holds a 6.6 rating from roughly 44,000 votes, while on TMDB it scores 7.6 from a much smaller base of about 3,073 votes. Running 108 minutes, it is a drama about two young people whose connection reshapes both of their lives.
