Short description
Howard Inlet is a successful New York advertising executive whose life unravels after a personal tragedy leaves him in deep depression. Withdrawing from work and the people around him, he begins writing letters to abstract concepts, addressing Love, Time and Death directly. His concerned colleagues and friends, unwilling to abandon him to his grief, devise an unconventional plan to force him to confront his pain. That plan produces results none of them anticipated.
David Frankel directed the film from a screenplay by Allan Loeb, who also produced alongside Anthony Bregman and Michael Sugar. It sits between One Chance and Jerry & Marge Go Large in Frankel's filmography, which also includes The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Hope Springs and The Big Year. Will Smith leads a cast that includes Edward Norton, Kate Winslet, Michael Peña, Helen Mirren and Jacob Latimore, with 41 credited cast members and 75 credited crew.
Released in December 2016, the film runs 97 minutes and was produced by Village Roadshow Pictures, Overbrook Entertainment, New Line Cinema and Anonymous Content. Against a budget of 36 million dollars, it took in 89 million dollars worldwide.
