Little Big Soldier

Set during China's Warring States period, Little Big Soldier follows a lowly soldier from the state of Liang who survives a devastating battle against the army of Wei by pretending to be dead. The only other survivor is a young Wei general, wounded and vulnerable. Seeing a way out of a war he never wanted to fight, the soldier takes the general prisoner, hoping to hand him over to his superiors in exchange for a reward that includes land and, more than anything, an honorable discharge and a return home. What should be a straightforward journey to his commanders becomes something far more complicated, as the pair travel together and others pursue the captive general for their own reasons.

Jackie Chan plays the Liang soldier and Leehom Wang the Wei general, with Steve Yoo, Lin Peng, Yuming Du and Ken Lo in supporting roles. Ding Sheng directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Jackie Chan. The film was the first of several collaborations between Chan and Ding Sheng, followed by Police Story: Lockdown, Railroad Tigers and A Better Tomorrow. Made for a budget of 25 million USD, it blends action and comedy with its historical wartime setting.

On IMDb the film holds a 6.8 rating from around 17,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from roughly 350 votes. A critics' rating of 6.2 from 14 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores on both platforms, suggesting that general viewers responded a little more warmly than professional reviewers did.
