A film director named Ham Chunsu arrives in Suwon a day earlier than planned. With hours to fill before a scheduled lecture, he visits a restored old palace, where he meets Yoon Heejung, a painter and former model who has left that career behind. The two spend the day together, looking at her work in her studio, sharing a meal and drinks, and drifting into each other's company. Their growing closeness is disrupted when the question of whether Chunsu is married comes up, and his answer changes the mood between them.
Right Now, Wrong Then was written and directed by Hong Sang-soo, released in Korea in 2015 and running 121 minutes. It is the second of the 15 films he directed in the chronological order given, arriving between Venice 70: Future Reloaded and On the Beach at Night Alone. Jung Jae-young plays Chunsu and Kim Min-hee plays Heejung, with supporting roles from Youn Yuh-jung, Ki Joo-bong, Choi Hwa-jeong and Yu Jun-sang. Kim Cho-hee produced for Jeonwonsa Film.
The ratings suggest a solid but not universal following: on IMDb it sits at 7.1 from roughly 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7 out of 10 from about 170 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to a modest, durable audience for the film within Hong's body of work.
