Trash Fire

Owen is a cynical web designer who blames himself for the fire that killed his parents and left his sister Pearl badly scarred. Years after leaving his grandmother Violet's home, he has cut himself off from both women. When his girlfriend Isabel tells him she is pregnant, she asks him to make peace with his only living relatives so he can prove he is capable of being a father. Reluctantly, Owen takes Isabel to the small town where Violet and Pearl still live, hoping to settle the past during a short visit. Violet makes no secret of her hostility toward the guests, and Pearl stays shut in her room, leaving Owen to reckon with memories he has long tried to bury.

Richard Bates Jr. wrote and directed the film, his third feature after Excision in 2012 and Suburban Gothic in 2014. Adrian Grenier plays Owen, Angela Trimbur plays Isabel, Fionnula Flanagan plays Violet, and AnnaLynne McCord plays Pearl, with Sally Kirkland and Matthew Gray Gubler in supporting roles. The film mixes comedy, drama, horror, romance and thriller elements across its 91-minute runtime.

It drew a critics' rating of 6.7/10 from 25 reviews, noticeably higher than its audience scores of 5.8/10 on IMDb from roughly 3,400 votes and 5.8/10 on TMDB.
