Heidi

Heidi is an eight-year-old orphan who goes to live with her grandfather, a solitary man in a small hut in the Swiss Alps. She takes to mountain life quickly, tending his goats alongside her friend Peter and enjoying a freedom she has never known. That life is interrupted when her aunt Dete takes her to Frankfurt and places her in the household of the wealthy Mr. Sesemann, where she is to be a companion to his daughter Klara, a girl of similar age who uses a wheelchair. Under the strict supervision of the governess Miss Rottenmeier, Heidi is expected to learn to read and write, and she and Klara become close, but she longs for the mountains and her grandfather.

The film is directed by Alain Gsponer from a screenplay by Petra Biondina Volpe, based on Johanna Spyri's novel. Anuk Steffen plays Heidi, with Bruno Ganz as her grandfather, Quirin Agrippi as Peter, Isabelle Ottmann as Klara, and Katharina Schüttler and Maxim Mehmet among the credited cast of twenty. It was produced by Jakob Claussen, Ulrike Putz and Reto Schärli as a German-Swiss co-production.

Released in December 2015, the film cost about 9 million dollars to make and took roughly 31 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.4 rating on IMDb from around 8,200 votes and a 7.3 on TMDB from about 448 votes, while critics gave it 7.1 from nine reviews, so audiences and critics are closely aligned.
