The Tuche Family: The American Dream

The Tuche family has come into serious money after a lottery win, and their youngest son, Donald, is given the chance to spend time in Los Angeles to work on his English. At university there he meets Jennifer, the daughter of a wealthy American financier, and is so impressed by her world that he presents his own family as something quite different from what they are, assuming the two households will never cross paths. His relatives then decide to surprise him in California for his birthday, and the visit does not go the way anyone expected.

Olivier Baroux directed this 2016 French comedy, the fourth of the seven features he has made in sequence, following Among Friends and preceding Just a Gigolo. It continues the Tuche series he began with The Tuche Family in 2011. Jean-Paul Rouve and Isabelle Nanty play Jeff and Cathy Tuche, with Théo Fernandez as Donald, alongside Sarah Stern, Claire Nadeau and Pierre Lottin among a credited cast of 66. Julien Hervé, Benjamin Morgaine and Lionel Dutemple wrote the screenplay, and Richard Grandpierre produced.

Made for about 9 million USD, the film took roughly 35 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its budget that reflects the popularity the series had built in France. On TMDB it holds a 5.6 rating from 1,027 votes, suggesting audiences there were divided. It runs 94 minutes.
