Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde

Richard Jacks is a scientist working on perfumes who feels unrecognized and unfulfilled. When he inherits the notebooks of his ancestor Dr. Henry Jekyll, he decodes the old formula and reworks it with modern methods, hoping to make a name for himself. The experiment does not go as planned: instead of a brutish alter ego, the potion turns him into Helen Hyde, a ruthless and seductive woman who pursues everything Richard lacks, including the attentions of his boss. As Helen takes over more of his life, Richard struggles to regain control, keep his fiancée Sarah from drawing the wrong conclusions, and find a way back to himself.

The film is a comic variation on Robert Louis Stevenson's story of split identity, using a gender switch as its central device. David Price directed it, his second feature after Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, from a screenplay by William Davies, William Osborne and Oliver Butcher. Tim Daly plays Richard, with Sean Young as Helen, and Lysette Anthony, Stephen Tobolowsky, Jeremy Piven and Harvey Fierstein in supporting roles.

Made for about 8 million dollars and released in August 1995, the film drew little enthusiasm. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 58 votes, and a critics' rating of 3.6 out of 10 from seven reviews, so audiences and critics alike judged it harshly.
