Stick Man is a short animated film about a wooden figure who lives contentedly in a family tree with his wife and their three children. One morning he goes out for a run and is seized by a dog that mistakes him for an ordinary stick. What follows is a long journey through the changing seasons, as he is carried far from home, passed from one pair of hands to another, while his family waits for him and Christmas approaches.
The film was directed by Jeroen Jaspaert and Daniel Snaddon, who wrote the screenplay with Max Lang. It was made by Magic Light Pictures and Orange Eye in the United Kingdom, and runs 27 minutes. Martin Freeman provides the voice of Stick Man, with Sally Hawkins as Stick Lady and other characters, Jennifer Saunders as the narrator, Hugh Bonneville as Santa, Russell Tovey as Dog, and Rob Brydon in several roles. It marked the first feature-length directing credit for both Jaspaert and Snaddon, each of whom went on to direct further animated adaptations of picture books.
Released in December 2015, the film took about 1 million dollars at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from roughly 4,200 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 6.8 from 119 votes, indicating a smaller but still positive response from that audience.
