Ip Man 2 continues the story of the Wing Chun master, this time in post-war Hong Kong. Having survived the war, Ip Man arrives with his family and struggles to earn a living. He opens a school to teach his martial art, but the city's established kung fu associations, led by Hung Gar master Hung Chun-Nam, make his path difficult. Rising tensions with the British colonial authorities, who hold Chinese traditions in little regard, add further pressure, and Ip Man is eventually drawn toward a challenge that puts Chinese honour on the line.
Wilson Yip directed the film, following his earlier Ip Man from 2008; the series would later continue with Ip Man 3 and Ip Man 4: The Finale. Donnie Yen returns in the title role, with Sammo Hung as Hung Chun-Nam, Huang Xiaoming as Wong Leung, Lynn Hung as Cheung Wing-Sing and Kent Cheng as Fatso. The screenplay was written by Edmond Wong, Tai-lee Chan and Choi Hiu-Yan, and the film runs 108 minutes.
Released in April 2010 on a budget of 13 million US dollars, it went on to take about 36 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from roughly 116,000 votes, while on TMDB it also stands at 7.5, from a much smaller base of about 2,500 votes.
