Dr. Alan Feinstone, the dentist whose violent breakdown followed his wife's infidelity, escapes from the psychiatric hospital where he was confined after his earlier crimes. He settles in a quiet Midwestern town and takes over the local dental practice under a false name, hoping to leave his past behind. The townspeople accept him, and a new romance begins to look like the fresh start he wanted. When he finds his new partner with another man, the same jealousy that once unhinged him returns, and his patients again become the targets of his rage.
Brian Yuzna directed the film, his second entry in the series after The Dentist in 1996 and the sixth of the seven features he has directed, between Necronomicon and Beyond Re-Animator. Corbin Bernsen returns as Feinstone, joined by Jillian McWhirter, Jeff Doucette, Susanne Wright, Jim Antonio and Lee Dawson. Richard Dana Smith wrote the screenplay, and Trimark Pictures produced the ninety-eight-minute horror thriller.
Released in December 1998, the film drew a modest audience response. On IMDb it holds a 4.8 rating from roughly 4,700 votes, and on TMDB a 5 from about 140 votes, placing it among the lower-regarded entries in the director's filmography.
