Delibal is a Turkish drama about two university students whose romance develops against the demands of family, career plans and an uncertain future. Barış is an architecture student who plays drums in a band and throws himself into student life. Füsun is a gifted student with her sights set on graduating with distinction and continuing her studies abroad. When Barış meets her, he sets out to win her over, and the two become close. Their bond deepens into mutual dependence, and they begin to take on each other's characteristics, a closeness that strains the relationship. Barış also lives with a psychological disorder, which shapes how the couple cope with their emotions and dreams.
The film is directed by Ali Bilgin, working from a screenplay by Yıldırım Türker, and produced by Kerem Çatay for Ay Yapım. It is the first of two features Bilgin has directed, followed by The Last Scene. Çağatay Ulusoy and Leyla Lydia Tuğutlu lead as Barış and Füsun, with Hüseyin Avni Danyal, Nazan Kesal, Mustafa Avkıran and Laçin Ceylan in supporting roles. Running 117 minutes, it was released in Turkey in December 2015.
Audience responses are moderately positive: on IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 134 ratings. The larger IMDb sample gives the more dependable picture of how the film has been received.
