Megamind
Short description
Megamind is an alien supervillain who has spent years trying and failing to conquer Metro City, because the city's masked protector, Metro Man, always stops him. When Megamind finally gets the better of his rival, he finds that victory leaves him without a purpose. To fill the gap, he creates a new champion, but the replacement decides he would rather use his powers to cause destruction than to protect anyone, leaving Megamind as the only one who can stop him.
The animated science fiction comedy was directed by Tom McGrath, his third feature after Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and the screenplay is by Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons. Will Ferrell voices Megamind, with Brad Pitt as Metro Man, Tina Fey as Roxanne Ritchi, Jonah Hill as Tighten, David Cross as Minion and Ben Stiller as Bernard. DreamWorks Animation produced the film with Paramount, Pacific Data Images and Red Hour.
Released in 2010, the film runs 96 minutes. Made for about 130 million dollars, it took in roughly 322 million dollars worldwide, a solid return on its budget. On IMDb it holds a 7.3 rating from around 324,000 votes, and on TMDB a 7 rating from more than 7,600 votes. The critics' rating stands at 6.7 from 179 reviews, broadly in line with how audiences received it.
What's left behind the scenes
- In the early stages of production, the film was titled “Master Mind.” However, later, due to disagreements with Marvel, which had already registered the phrase as a trademark, the film's title had to be changed.
- “Megamind” was the first DreamWorks film made in HDR (High Dynamic Range) format.
- The rain scene featured 700,000 water droplets modeled according to all the laws of physics.
