Creepy

After surviving an attempt on his life by a psychopath, police inspector Takakura leaves active duty and becomes a university lecturer in criminal psychology. He remains drawn to the question of why criminals act as they do, so he agrees when his former colleague Nogami asks him to look into an old case involving a family that disappeared six years earlier. At the same time, Takakura and his wife Yasuko have moved into a new house, where their neighbours include a teenage girl and her unsettling father. The girl's claims about the man she lives with pull the couple into the danger surrounding them.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa directed and co-wrote the film with Chihiro Ikeda. It is the seventh of the fifteen films he has directed in chronological order, following Tokyo Sonata and preceding Before We Vanish. Hidetoshi Nishijima plays Takakura, with Yuko Takeuchi as Yasuko, Teruyuki Kagawa as Masayuki, Haruna Kawaguchi as Honda Saki, Masahiro Higashide as Nogami and Ryoko Fujino as Mio. The film was released in Japan in June 2016 and runs 130 minutes.

Reception was mixed to positive. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 6,800 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 out of 10 from roughly 226 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 7.1 out of 10 from 53 reviews, indicating that reviewers responded to it more favourably than general audiences did.
