Mindhorn

Richard Thorncroft was once the star of Mindhorn, a 1980s detective series set on the Isle of Man in which he played a secret agent whose robotic eye could see the truth. His career has since faded, and he now appears in advertisements for socks. When a suspected killer on the island contacts the police and says he will deal only with Detective Mindhorn, whom he believes to be a real person, Thorncroft is brought in to help with the case, returning to the place and the people he left behind.

The comedy is the feature directorial debut of Sean Foley, who wrote it with Julian Barratt and Simon Farnaby; Barratt plays Thorncroft and Farnaby appears as his former co-star Clive Parnevik. Essie Davis plays Patricia Deville, Steve Coogan plays Peter Easterman, and Andrea Riseborough plays the police officer DC Elena Baines. The film was released in 2016 and runs 89 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.9/10 from 50 reviews, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.1/10 from 327 votes. Foley's next feature, National Theatre Live: Dr. Strangelove, followed in 2025.
