François Gautier is a talented violinist whose life is defined by an extreme obsession with saving money. His pathological stinginess makes any expenditure a source of panic, forcing him to use clever tactics to maintain a facade of normalcy in his social life. His world is disrupted when a sixteen-year-old girl named Laura arrives claiming to be his daughter, a child he never knew existed. As he struggles to hide his frugality from her, he also develops feelings for a cellist named Valérie. These new relationships create a conflict between his desire for emotional connection and his compulsive need to avoid spending.
