Priest
Short description
Set in an alternate world, the story follows a long-standing conflict between humanity and vampires. After a major war, survivors live within walled cities controlled by the Church. A veteran warrior priest, now living in obscurity, breaks his sacred vows to hunt down a group of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. He is joined in his mission by a former priestess and a wasteland sheriff who is the niece's boyfriend.
Directed by Scott Stewart, this was the second film in his career, following Legion. The movie stars Paul Bettany as the titular priest, alongside Karl Urban, Lily Collins, Maggie Q, Stephen Moyer, and Cam Gigandet. Produced by Michael De Luca, Mitchell Peck, and Joshua Donen, the project had a budget of 60 million USD and earned 84 million USD at the worldwide box office.
The film received mixed to negative reactions from different groups. It holds a rating of 5.9/10 on TMDB based on 2,633 votes, while film critics gave it a lower rating of 4/10 from 96 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- The animated scene at the beginning was a compromise solution, as the studio categorically refused to film a centuries-long battle between humans and vampires with actors due to financial considerations, so they used animation, which was much cheaper.
- The film features "Suzuki" "Gladius" motorcycles, modified with special fiberglass body kits, painted and aged. The look of each of the six motorcycles was completed with prop weapons. Work on the motorcycles took approximately six weeks in total. As a result, all the motorcycles were fully operational (register and ride). Some of them remained in the film industry after the completion of this film and were subsequently used in other projects.
