Wonderstruck

Wonderstruck follows two children living decades apart whose stories unfold side by side. Ben, a boy in Minnesota, dreams of the father he has never met, while Rose, a deaf girl in New York, is absorbed by a mysterious actress whose career she follows closely. Each feels out of step with the life around them, and when Ben finds a clue among his mother's belongings and Rose comes across a newspaper item, both set off on searches that carry them toward the same city and, eventually, toward each other.

The film was directed by Todd Haynes, arriving between Carol and Dark Waters as the seventh of the nine features he had made to that point. Brian Selznick wrote the screenplay from his own book, with Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler and John Sloss producing. Oakes Fegley and Millicent Simmonds play the two young leads, while Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams appear in adult roles.
