Set in Brooklyn, Where Is Kyra? follows a woman named Kyra whose life unravels after she loses her job and her mother dies. Burdened by debt and with no income, she searches for a way to keep her apartment and get by. She finds comfort in Doug, another lonely person whose own life is far from stable, and though she initially hides the severity of her situation from him, she gradually draws him into a deception. What begins as a struggle to survive turns into a risky and unclear path that puts her at ever greater risk.
Andrew Dosunmu directed the film, his second feature after Mother of George in 2013, from a screenplay by Darci Picoult. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Kyra, with Kiefer Sutherland as Doug, and Suzanne Shepherd, Tony Okungbowa, Babs Olusanmokun and Stella Schnabel among the credited cast of twenty-two. Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa and Rhea Scott produced, and the production involved Killer Films, Big Indie Pictures and Little Minx Films.
The film runs 98 minutes and was released in April 2018. Audience response has been mixed: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.6 from a much smaller base of 64 votes. The two figures are close, suggesting limited but consistent viewer interest in this low-key character study.
