Gulliver's Travels

Gulliver's Travels is a 2010 family adventure comedy based loosely on Jonathan Swift's classic novel. Jack Black plays Lemuel Gulliver, a man stuck in a dead-end mailroom job at a New York newspaper who dreams of becoming a travel writer. To impress a woman he admires, he claims an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle, where a storm sweeps him off course to the island of Lilliput. There he discovers a civilization of tiny people, and after a rocky first encounter in which they take him prisoner, he wins them over with exaggerated tales of his own importance. When his stories bring danger to his new friends, Gulliver has to prove himself for real.

The film was directed by Rob Letterman, following his work on Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens. The screenplay comes from Joe Stillman and Nicholas Stoller. Alongside Black, the cast includes Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly and Chris O'Dowd.

Released in December 2010, the film had a budget of 112 million dollars and took in 237 million dollars worldwide. Audience scores sit at 4.9 on IMDb from around 78,000 votes and 5.2 on TMDB, while the film critics' rating stands at 4.1 from 118 reviews.
