Rebel in the Rye

Rebel in the Rye is a biographical drama about the American writer J.D. Salinger, tracing his life from his youth in New York through his struggles to establish himself as an author. At Columbia University he meets the professor Whit Burnett, whose mentorship helps shape his writing. The story also follows his romance with Oona O'Neill and his service in the Second World War, experiences that feed into the novel that would bring him worldwide fame, The Catcher in the Rye.

The film was released in 2017 and runs 106 minutes. It was directed by Danny Strong, who also wrote the screenplay, working from a biography of Salinger; Bruce Cohen, Strong and Molly Smith produced it. Nicholas Hoult plays Salinger, with Kevin Spacey as Burnett, Victor Garber as Sol Salinger, Hope Davis as Miriam, Zoey Deutch as Oona O'Neill and Lucy Boynton as Claire Douglas. It is an American production from Black Label Media.

On IMDb the film holds 6.7 out of 10 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from roughly 272 votes. A critics' rating of 5.2 from 88 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
