Jungle

Jungle is a survival adventure film set in 1981, following Yossi, a young Israeli backpacker travelling through South America. In Bolivia he and two friends meet Karl, a charismatic guide who claims deep knowledge of the region. Together they set off into the Amazon rainforest in search of an isolated indigenous tribe. The expedition soon goes wrong: Karl's guidance proves unreliable, the group becomes separated, and Yossi is left alone in the jungle for weeks, forced to endure fear, pain and despair in order to stay alive. The story is based on real events, drawn from Yossi Ghinsberg's memoir of his ordeal.

Greg McLean directed the film, which sits between The Darkness and The Belko Experiment in his filmography, from a screenplay by Justin Monjo. Daniel Radcliffe plays Yossi, with Alex Russell as Kevin, Thomas Kretschmann as Karl, Joel Jackson as Marcus, Yasmin Kassim as Kina and Luis Jose Lopez as Tico. The production involved companies from Australia and elsewhere, with Gary Hamilton, McLean and Dana Lustig producing, and a credited cast of thirty and crew of sixty-eight.

Released in 2017, the film has a runtime of 115 minutes and took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7 out of 10 from roughly 70,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.7 out of 10 from about 2,290 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 53 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
